Job Description:
Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS) has the fastest, lowest cost path to commercial fusion energy.
CFS collaborates with MIT to leverage decades of research combined with groundbreaking new high-temperature superconducting (HTS) magnet technology. HTS magnets will enable compact fusion power plants that can be constructed faster and at lower cost. Our mission is to deploy these power plants to meet global decarbonization goals as fast as possible. To that end, CFS has assembled a team of leaders in tough tech, fusion science, and manufacturing with a track record of rapid execution. Supported by the worlds leading investors, CFS is uniquely positioned to deliver limitless, clean, fusion power to combat climate change. To implement this plan, we are looking to add dedicated people to the team who treat people well, improve our work by adding multifaceted perspectives and new ways of solving problems, have achieved outstanding results through a range of pursuits, and have skills and experience related to this role.
As a Platform Engineer at Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS), you will play a crucial role in building a robust and scalable framework to facilitate the modernization and advancement of the company’s IT and OT infrastructure. Youll leverage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) methodologies, cloud technologies, and industry best practices to establish a foundation for efficient and automated platform engineering practices.
In this role, you will lead the effort to elevate CFS’s infrastructure by designing and implementing a comprehensive framework that aligns with industry best practices. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software engineers, DevOps specialists, and system administrators, to define infrastructure requirements, optimize architecture, and automate deployment and scalability processes.
Your expertise in IaC principles will enable you to create scalable infrastructure templates utilizing tools like Terraform or CloudFormation. By adopting cloud technologies, such as AWS alongside traditional networking and datacenter technologies, you will design and implement secure and scalable solutions that ensure efficient resource utilization and ease of management.
As a member of the team, you will provide technical guidance and mentorship, driving the development of best practices and engineering standards related to platform infrastructure. You will actively participate in conceptualizing and implementing the framework, leveraging your expertise in both cloud-native and traditional solutions such as serverless architectures and microservices.
To excel in this role, you should have a strong background in platform engineering with hands-on experience in designing, building, and managing cloud-based and on-premise infrastructure.
Overall, as a Platform Engineer at CFS, you will have the opportunity to shape the infrastructure framework that will underpin not only the company’s technology transformation, but the fusion industry as a whole. Your contributions will directly impact the efficiency, scalability, and security of CFS’s systems, enabling the advancement of clean and sustainable energy production through fusion technology.
This team member will:
Design and implement a comprehensive framework for infrastructure that aligns with industry best practices
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define infrastructure requirements and optimize architecture
Automate deployment and scalability processes using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) methodologies
Create scalable infrastructure templates using tools like Terraform or CloudFormation
Design and implement secure and scalable solutions utilizing cloud technologies (AWS, GCP, Azure) and traditional networking and datacenter technologies
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members
Develop best practices and engineering standards related to platform infrastructure
Participate in the conceptualization and implementation of the framework, including serverless architectures and microservices
Design, build, and manage cloud-based and on-premise infrastructure using these frameworks
Identify and evaluate new technologies and tools to enhance platform infrastructure
Implement and manage monitoring and alerting systems to ensure high availability and performance of infrastructure
Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure issues in a timely manner
Manage and optimize resource utilization in cloud and on-premise environments
Implement security measures to protect infrastructure and data
Automate repetitive tasks to improve efficiency and scalability
