About the Role
Freelance Designer
Daily Kos is the nation’s largest liberal online political community, news organization, and activism hub. Powered by millions of highly engaged supporters, we’re building progressive power by connecting grassroots activists to hundreds of people-powered organizations and campaigns.
We are seeking a Freelance Designer to support the continuing evolution of dailykos.com and associated products. As Freelance Designer, you will be responsible for working with the technology and product teams to produce wireframes, comps and Figma files for website concepts and final designs which support readers’ and activists’ participation on site. You will report to the Senior Director of Program Management to ensure your designs and specifications advance the strategic goals of the organization and the progressive movement.
Responsibilities
Work with the product and technology teams to understand project requirements and specifications
Work within the existing Daily Kos design system (fonts, colors, etc)
Produce wireframes and final design solutions for individual projects which vary in complexity from updating a web form with additional fields to full page designs
Document work as needed
Effectively collaborate with remote teammates
Be available and responsive to communication during the work day, and available to turn small projects around in a timely manner
Actively engage with the user community on dailykos.com to ensure a thorough understanding of user perspectives and needs, fostering company-wide success through stakeholder alignment
__Experience/Qualifications
Detail-oriented, with excellent written and verbal communication skills
Understanding of Agile and Scrum development practices
Familiarity with how software is developed and released
The ability to partner with a diverse group of stakeholders with competing interests
Comfort with extracting meaningful signal from large data sets
A portfolio of comparable work that can be evaluated
Proficiency in design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD.
Design and deliver user flows and journey maps.
Understanding of user-centered design principles and best practices.
Communicate design ideas and prototypes to developers and stakeholders.
Knowledge of accessibility standards and guidelines.
Familiarity with HTML and CSS is a plus
LOCATION: Remote within the US
Salary: $100/hour
This position is a contract position and reports to the Senior Director of Program Management. Candidates must be legally eligible to work in the United States.
