Overview

Excellent position for a social worker with a background serving Latine, Spanish-speaking communities and experience in working with adults with serious illness. This role is under the Division of Social Work at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in the Department of Psychosocial Oncology and Palliative Care. In this exciting role as a dedicated ambulatory social worker providing clinical oncology social work services with an additional unique focus, you will aim to identify gaps in service; build education and training; create programming; and make recommendations for systems improvements and integration to meet the needs of Latine, Spanish-speaking patients in order to improve the patient and family experience throughout the process of cancer care. The social worker will provide in-person and telehealth services to patients and families (i.e., phone/Zoom video) with a specialty in the provision of culturally attuned psychosocial care conducted in Spanish. Modalities include individual, family, and group work. Candidate must be able to thrive in a fast paced, complex, academic medical environment where the social worker is a key, valued member of the multidisciplinary medical team. This position calls for best practice intervention, collaboration, and consultation related to this specific patient population. Experience in program development required.

Responsibilities

Research and identify interventions and systems that support optimal cancer care

Work within the framework of an interdisciplinary care model

Liaison with internal and external programs and agencies to determine best practices for resource and referral for Spanish speaking patients who may experience significant psychosocial barriers to continuity of care.

Address obstacles to accessing services for patients in coordination with referral sources and other staff

Work on special projects/programs/committees reflecting the needs of Spanish speaking patients

Develop innovative materials and educational and support programs

Develop and maintain resource database and detailed records regarding identified community programs

Lead and co-lead educational and support programs delivered in person or remotely via videoconference.

Develop and facilitate educational forums/trainings for staff/trainees and for community clinicians to enhance understanding of the broad impact of cancer diagnosis and treatment for Spanish speaking patients.

Promote and publicize educational and support programs within DFCI and the larger community as appropriate.

Qualifications

Minimum Job Qualifications:

Master’s Degree in Social Work from accredited program

LICSW in MA (and state specific based on location).

Bilingual English / Spanish required

7 years social work practice required; health care setting preferred with at least 3 years in an oncology setting or with oncology patients (other social work experience may substitute).

Knowlege Skills and Abilities:

Advanced education or training in program planning, project management, macro-level social work skills

Thorough knowledge of program specific or population-specific research and best practices Advanced ability and demonstrated interest in acquiring, maintaining, and updating program specific and or population-specific expertise via trainings or additional certifications

Advanced ability to assess needs specific to the program target population using appropriate and validated tools and metrics

Advanced ability to creatively identify and/or develop resources in response to program needs and identified gaps

Advanced ability to project plan and utilize organizational and communication skills to address problems and overcome barriers or setbacks.

Advanced ability to work effectively with stakeholders and build strong collaborative relationships.

Advanced ability to manage resources thoughtfully and with a commitment to achieving program goals.

High level of organizational skills, attention to detail and accuracy, and ability to follow through to completion.

Advanced ability to work independently while also working effectively as a team member, engaging, and partnering with all levels of stakeholders when needed

Advanced proficiency in using Excel, PowerPoint, and data gathering programs (i.e., Redcap, QuickBase, etc.) or the ability and intention to pursue and acquire effective working knowledge of these and other role dependent tools

Advanced analytic and interpretation skills related to qualitative and quantitative data.

Advanced ability to effectively communicate program goals, needs, findings, and outcomes both verbally and in writing to internal and external audiences of all levels

Advanced ability to teach and mentor others at all levels

Advanced ability to self-reflect, evaluate, give, and receive feedback and grow professionally in the role
