The Department of Environmental Protection, Bureau of Remediation and Waste Management, is seeking to fill a Senior Environmental Engineer position in Augusta or Portland.

BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: This is professional services and engineering work in overseeing subordinate engineering personnel and maintaining a project workload. Responsibilities include conducting highly complex environmental engineering planning and review; managing environmental pollution abatement, remediation, and prevention projects; and overseeing the work of subordinate staff while ensuring that all work conforms to sound engineering practices while being cost-effective. The position reports to an Environmental Engineering Services Manager.

This position manages the Oil Spill Prevention Unit which promotes the responsible storage, management, and transportation of petroleum products. The position also manages PFAS technology process reviews for various Department Divisions. The position provides engineering expertise and oversight of the Spill Prevention Countermeasures and Control program and the Home Heating Oil Tank Replacement program; conducts and participates in tank and facility inspections, Table-Top Exercises, and process reviews; and provides technical assistance to the Underground Storage Tank Installer program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Licensure as a Professional Engineer and two (2) years of professional experience in environmental engineering or related field after licensure.

LICENSE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Licensure as a Professional Engineer by the Maine State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers.

Preference will be given to candidates with the following skills and experience:

Experience or knowledge of civil, mechanical, or chemical engineering principles and practices.

Knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations applicable to the area of specialization.

Demonstrated organizational skills.

Ability to manage projects and personnel in order to meet project deadlines.

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Ability to foster teamwork.

Ability to identify and analyze problems, reach logical conclusions and make sound, cost-effective decisions.
