Description of Work Unit
The Office of Engagement and Extension (OEE), in cooperation with the Colorado State University (CSU) colleges and other units, has general charge over the University’s educational programs and services across the areas of engaged scholarship, extension, and extended campuses, which complement and reinforce the research, teaching, and service missions of CSU. OEE is collaborative space for faculty, staff, and students pursuing and promoting community-based research, service-learning, industry partnerships, and other forms of the scholarship of engagement. In partnership with the CSU colleges and other divisions, OEE faculty and staff work throughout the state of Colorado to engage individuals and communities in the design, implementation, and application of scholarship and educational opportunities. The OEE Vice President is the principal administrative, academic, and fiscal officer for the division, reports to the CSU President, and works closely with the Provost/Executive Vice President. OEE includes over 400 employees and operates with a total budget across the enterprises of approximately $85 million. OEE is one of the most institutionally comprehensive commitments to engagement and outreach among all land-grant and other universities. Propelled by OEE’s leadership, nationally CSU is a Carnegie Engaged University (2008, 2014), is a member of the Engagement Scholarship Consortium, is an APLU Innovation and Economic Prosperity University (2016) and is highly ranked for its online degree programs. The Colorado AgrAbility Project (CAP) Team in the Office of Engagement and Extension is looking for a full-time State Program Specialist, Logistics, Behavioral Health to provide logistical, networking, and content support to expand the scope and quality of impact of the CAP team’s efforts to address farm stress and promote suicide prevention in our rural and agricultural communities.
The Colorado AgrAbility Project (CAP) Team has a rural rehabilitation specialist and an agricultural resource economist who address primarily the physical needs and other physical challenges of agricultural producers with disabilities and a team of 3 Regional Behavioral Health Specialists and a Extension State Specialist, Behavioral Health. These regional behavioral health specialists support the CAP Team to inform, educate, and assist farmers, ranchers, agricultural workers, and their families so they can continue to have successful careers in agriculture. They collaborate with local stakeholders in their regions to identify rural community behavioral health needs and work in partnership to address these through consultation and training. Behavioral health specialists conduct resource mapping and establish partnerships with providers and stakeholders in their regions to improve awareness, access, and acceptability of behavioral health services. Our Regional Specialists have been in place for a year now and are making a wide range of impact in our rural and agricultural communities. The State Program Specialist, Logistics, Behavioral Health would help coordinate and organize statewide efforts in addressing farm stress, rural determinants of behavioral health, and suicide prevention. The The State Program Specialist, Logistics, Behavioral Health would also work to explore and secure external funding for the CAP team to expand our work and promote sustainability. Currently, we have Regional Behavioral Health Specialists in three out of the five Extension regions and the addition of this FTE would allow us to increase our capacity and presence across the state.
The The State Program Specialist, Logistics, Behavioral Health will work with the AgrAbility Co-Directors, the Behavioral Health State and Regional Specialists, and CSU Extension Regional Directors to identify communitive responsive, research-based stress assistance information and evidence-based programs, suicide prevention training, advocacy, and resources, make visits on the farm or ranch, and make referrals to other behavioral health professionals as needed. They will partner with them to identify resources, support and expand the work of the CAP with five or more winter workshops, network with behavioral health providers, work with other agricultural organizations to receive input from ranchers and farmers, provide best practices via webinars, trainings, workshops, and other activities to reduce stigma of ranchers and farmers seeking and following through with consulting with local behavioral health providers. Operating and travel funds will support outreach and coordination of statewide efforts.

Position Summary
OEE invites applications and nominations for a State Program Specialist, Logistics, Behavioral Health. This is a full-time, two-year position, with possible extension if additional funding is secured after two years. The intent is to secure funding to continue this position, however, if additional funding is not secured, this position will be discontinued or potentially reduced in time/effort to operate with funds available. Faculty rank is dependent upon the candidate’s academic credentials and professional experience and is subject to review by the Extension Promotion Committee. The faculty appointment, evaluation, and promotion standards are centered around the three core duties of extension faculty â educate, create, and connect. Candidates are sought with interests that complement and expand upon current initiatives and education activities in OEE and CSU Extension.
The State Program Specialist, Logistics, Behavioral Health would support the Colorado State University Colorado AgrAbility Project, as they seek to expand the range and scope of work increasing the behavioral well-being of our rural and agricultural communities. They shall be culturally responsive and trauma-informed (cf. Senate Bill 21- 137, Section 7). They will facilitate teamwork, track programs, and refer new clients to CAP. They must be able to perform work and solve problems independently while being able to take direction from multiple partners and stakeholders and manage team cohesion across academic fields.
The primary office location for this position will be a campus/hybrid-based arrangement. While this position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement, the individual is expected to maintain a balance establishing a presence in the primary office, to effectively carry out the duties of the position. The work schedule will vary, and occasional nights and weekends will be required.

Required Job Qualifications
Completed master’s degree. Conferred degree in a behavioral/mental health field.
At least three years’ clinical experience working with clients in crises.
Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date.
The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the proposed start date; Extension will not sponsor a visa for this position.

Preferred Job Qualifications
Skill recognizing signs of high stress, anger, depression, and suicidal thinking
Experience and skill in listening to and connecting well with farmers, ranchers, agricultural workers, and agricultural communities and in making effective referrals to local behavioral health therapists
Experience making personal contacts with farmers and ranchers on site after a fire, flood, drought, or other disaster
Demonstrated experience, training, and/or practice related to trauma responsiveness, suicide prevention, and family systems work.
Ability to effectively attune to diversity, inclusion, equity, and social justice.
Background as a farmer, rancher, or agricultural worker or experience with ranch and farm communities
Demonstrated people skills, team building skills, and conflict negotiation skills
Passion and desire to make a difference in Colorado farm and ranch families’ behavioral health and suicide prevention
Ability to work independently
Experience and ability to present stress assistance or suicide prevention webinars, trainings, or workshops to groups of agricultural workers, professionals, AgrAbility staff, etc.
Ability to establish and sustain strong working relationships with diverse community stakeholders
Spanish language proficiency
This full-time position involves day-to-day decision-making necessary to recognize signs of high stress, anger, depression, and suicidal thinking remotely, to address the behavioral health needs of farmers, ranchers, and agricultural workers with information, education, and referrals to other professionals.
Ability to engage and sustain effective collaborative relationships with a wide range of community and agricultural partners to further solidify and expand the reach of the CAP team’s work.

Collaborate effectively with CSU faculty partners in evaluation, funding opportunities, and program development that seeks to increase the quality and scope of the CAP team’s behavioral health impact in Colorado rural and agricultural communities.
