WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Berkshire Hathaway Homestate Companies, Workers Compensation Division, is seeking a Payroll/HR Coordinator to join our Human Resources team. The primary responsibility of this position will be to assist the Senior HR Specialist with the preparation and processing of our scheduled payroll batches and associated Payroll/HR tasks. This individual will also be responsible for the entry, collation, and verification of employee data and payroll inputs into the HRIS platform while discreetly handling highly sensitive information.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists the Senior HR Specialist in the preparation and processing of scheduled payroll batches.

Ensures the proper entry of employee payroll data and obtains required approvals according to established procedures.

Collaborates with the HR Operations team to maintain the employee database accurately and in a timely manner.

Reviews employee timecards for accuracy and supervisory approval, including regular hours, overtime hours, and non-productive hours.

Processes wage garnishments and responds to garnishment notices.

Maintains appropriate payroll records related to employee Leave of Absences.

Answers employees’ payroll questions and resolves problems in a timely manner.

Prepares necessary reports for payroll audits and regulatory reporting.

Assists in filing monthly, quarterly, and yearly payroll-related state and government agency reporting requirements.

Maintains a secure filing system for all confidential information, including pay data, employee information, and State filings.

Performs administrative HR tasks and ad-hoc projects as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Associate’s degree or some secondary coursework required; Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or related field preferred.

EDUCATION: Minimum of two (2) years of previous payroll work related experience, including knowledge of Federal and State labor laws and confidential file management. Experience with HRIS platforms, preferably ADP Workforce Now.

Strong ability to develop and identify a variety of standard & custom reporting capabilities within HRIS platform to provide meaningful reports.

Strong mathematical and reasoning abilities.

Demonstratable proficiency with Microsoft Excel.

In accordance with the California Equal Pay Act, the pay scale for this job is $30.5817 to $39.8365 per hour. This pay scale is an estimate of the hourly range the employer reasonably expects to pay for the position based on potential employee qualifications, operational needs and other considerations consistent with applicable law. The actual hourly wage may be above or below the range. The pay scale applies only to this position and only if it is filled in Walnut Creek, California. The pay scale may be different for other positions or in other locations.
