Summary:
The Ostomy R&D Packaging Team serves Hollister and its product end users by providing packaging engineering expertise to commercialize optimized and compliant packaging systems and sustain and improve our on-market product packaging. We help our organization drive cost competitiveness, improve operating efficiencies and effectiveness, and sustain performance in quality, service, and product commercialization.
The Packaging Manager will contribute to Hollister’s growth, profitability, and continuity by leading a team of medical device packaging engineers for the Ostomy business unit and associated manufacturing sites.
They will serve as a subject matter expert and coach to the packaging engineers for new product development and commercialization and changes to existing products. This includes packaging and labeling system development, manufacturing, and performance to the point of end use. They will also support business unit and departmental continuous improvement objectives.
This position reports into R&D at corporate headquarters in Libertyville, IL.
Responsibilities:
Manage and develop emerging and experienced packaging professionals (engineers).
Prioritize and resource cross-functional projects that require packaging expertise.
Ensure packaging activities meet business (timing, budget, etc.) and stakeholder (regulatory, quality, manufacturing, end user, etc.) requirements.
Advise packaging engineers on project schedules and technical problem resolution.
Review and approve technical documentation, including design assurance documents, protocols, reports, procedures, specifications, work instructions, original data.
Manage talent acquisition and onboarding processes.
Identify, lead, and support cost savings opportunities.
Monitor and ensure compliance with packaging regulations and standards.
Monitor the industry for packaging trends (materials, equipment, etc.)
Represent Hollister at industry events (conferences, seminars, etc.)
Educate the organization on packaging best practices.
Work in an office environment is required as well as in labs and manufacturing sites
Requirements:
Number of Overall Years Necessary: 8-12
Bachelor of Science in Packaging or equivalent, Advanced degree preferred.
Medical device packaging leadership experience
Comprehensive knowledge of packaging and labeling materials and equipment
Proficient in test methods for materials, integrity, physical properties, distribution simulation, and aging
Design of experiment and packaging process validation
Optimization and cost savings
Specialized Skills and Knowledge:
Proficient knowledge of ASTM D10 and F02 and ISO 11607 and 16775
Proficient knowledge of ISO 13485, EU MDR, IEC 62366, and FDA Guidance on Applying Human Factors and Usability Engineering to Medical Devices
Proficient with Qumas, SAP, CAPE, TOPS, JMP, Minitab or similar
Strong communication and organizational skills
Able to handle multiple projects at varying levels of complexity
Able to effectively negotiate and influence business decisions as required
English proficiency
