Job Description
This Finance Professional 3 position is an integral component of the 14 person accounting team of the Medicine Administrative Center. This position has the ability to work 100% remote or hybrid. You will be expected to attend up two in-person accounting workshops per year located in Minnesota.
45% Research Accounting
This position works with both sponsored and non-sponsored funding. They would be the financial expert from the point at which a grant is funded through closure. Responsibilities include:
â¢Determining appropriate payroll percentages for labor charging and effort certification.
â¢Auditing and approving expenditures, ensuring compliance with University and sponsor policies.
â¢Developing financial projections and working with faculty and/or staff to research the source and cause of discrepancies in accounting systems.
â¢Assist with renewals and closeout of projects.
35% Budget Analysis & Reporting
â¢Reviews and distributes monthly sponsored and non-sponsored reports based upon established deadlines.
â¢Proactively analyze reports and trends to inform and work with faculty to develop financial plans and/or find alternative funding sources.
â¢Support annual budget process for assigned division.
15% Certified Approver & Effort Certification
â¢Audit and approve expenditures on sponsored research projects.
â¢Interpret grant and contract regulations and their relation to University accounting procedures, identifies areas of concern and recommends solutions.
â¢Provide departmental expertise on expenditure requirements and policy.
â¢Coordinate the effort certification process.
â¢Review effort statements and work with faculty to resolve discrepancies.
5% Process Improvements & Miscellaneous Analysis
â¢Be a departmental representative on Medical School, AHC and central committees.
â¢Provide data and recommendations to managers regarding account and/or fund balances, budgeting practices and accounting functions.
â¢Coordinate activities with project leaders, financial staff and outside agencies.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications
â¢BA/BS plus at least 4 years of experience or a combination of related education and work experience to equal eight years.
â¢Prior experience with financial reporting and analyses.
â¢Proficiency with Excel.
â¢Certified Approver or the ability to obtain within one year.
Preferred Qualifications
⢠Project accounting, preferably with sponsored research accounting.
⢠Experience with the University of Minnesota financial management information systems and EFS Peoplesoft accounting system, or accounting or fiscal experience in a public, comprehensive higher education institution with considerable knowledge of administrative policies and procedures typical of a public institution of higher education.
⢠Fund accounting skills.
⢠Demonstrated ability to interpret and present and analyze information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
⢠Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members and individuals.
⢠Strong organizational skills with demonstrated ability to use good judgment in prioritizing multiple requests made at times by persons with competing interests.
â¢Demonstrated ability to work effectively in informal and formal teaming arrangements.
