Position Overview

University Academic Support Centers (UASC) is a comprehensive student support program consisting of three unique centers designed to strengthen the academic skills and written communication of students at the University of Kansas. UASC supports the University’s commitment to the academic success and holistic development of students. UASC programs encourage student participation both in and out of the classroom, support academic and personal development, and link students to other campus and community resources for academic and personal support and development. University Academic Support Centers is a department within Academic Success.

 

The University Testing Center Manager manages the provision of accommodated exams for students with disabilities through work with the Student Access Center and make up exams for students utilizing the University Excused Absence Policy or are making up exams for other reasons in the University-wide Testing Center. This position coordinates and develops ongoing rapport with Student Access Center staff, university teaching staff, and multiple departments on campus, and is responsible for policy communication and testing center usage tracking and reporting. The Testing Center Manager supervises the testing center staff, including full-time, graduate, and undergraduate employees. This is a full-time, 12-month position, which, at certain times of the academic year, may include a hybrid schedule (e.g., when classes are not in session). The Testing Center Manager reports to the Assistant Director of the Student Access Center.

Job Description

80% – Test Center Management

Manages both accommodated exams for students with disabilities and make-up exams through the University Excused Absence Policy. This includes management of the entire scheduling and examination process, from student request to exam acquisition, test center seating and proctoring, and culminating in the return of the exam to faculty.

Develops, implements and communicates Test Center policies and procedures to the campus community. Creates and maintains rapport with students and faculty, communicating policies, expectations, and working collaboratively to resolve potential conflicts that arise.

Leads assessment and evaluation efforts of Test Center utilization and uses data to inform program modifications and adaptations. Prepares semester and yearly reports for Student Access Center and University Academic Support Center leadership.

 

15% – Supervision

Directs the activities and evaluates the performance of professional and student staff, including full-time professional staff, graduate assistants, and undergraduate proctors.

Directs the recruitment, hiring, and training of new professional and student staff.

 

5%–Other Duties

Assumes other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Position Requirements

This position generally works a Monday-Friday, 8:00-5:00 schedule. Finals week in the Spring and Fall semesters include extended hours for all Testing Center staff that can include hours between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. Very occasional night or weekend work could be required (e.g., occasional student events such as Hawk Week). At certain times of the academic year the work schedule may include a hybrid schedule (e.g., when classes are not in session).

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree with two (2) years of related experience OR Master’s degree.

Exceptional skills in attention to detail as evidenced by previous work experience and/or project management as demonstrated through application materials.

Two (2) years demonstrated experience using Microsoft (MS) Windows and MS Office applications.

Exceptional skills in written communication as demonstrated by application materials.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree with two (2) years related experience or Bachelor’s degree with five (5) years related experience.

One year of full-time or two years of part-time experience working with college students by the time of appointment.

Previous experience coordinating a testing center.
